The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) late yesterday named Senator Hope Uzodinma as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the  2019 governorship election in Imo State.

Uzodinma’s name was pasted at the INEC office in Owerri with Akaolisa Cyprian Okechukwu as his running mate

Our correspondent who visited the INEC office  at about 8pm observed that Uzodinma is among the 68 other candidates  displayed.

This came about 10 hours after INEC pasted  names of the various other political party candidates, but excluded that of the APC.

A source said  Uzodinma’s name made a dramatic appearance immediately after a Federal High Court in Owerri vacated an earlier order which restrained INEC from publishing any name under the APC for the election other than Uche Nwosu.
A statement from Uzodinma’s Media Aide, Declan Emetumba, lauded INEC’s decision.

Earlier, neither Uzodinma nor Uche Nwosu who were laid claim to the APC governorship ticket in the state was among the names of the other candidates on the list.

There was a court order restraining INEC from accepting or publishing any name except Uche Nwosu as the authentic candidate.

The APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomole, had earlier forwarded the name of Uzodinma to INEC as the party’s governorship candidate.

Uche Nwosu earlier lauded INEC for obeying the court order while chiding Oshiomole for allegedly creating confusion by submitting the name of Hope Uzodinma in defiance of the court order, describing  it as undemocratic.
